This is a game of poetry. Basically, the first person takes any first line of a poem, and the second person has to finish it with a line corresponding in rhyme, measure, and sense with it. Humor is optional, but definitely wanted. An example: There is a garden is her face; A silly second line would be, Her dermatologist has the case. Anyway, post a finisher to the line ahead, and post a new line for the next player. "I strove with none; for none was worth my strife" Let t...

Exaggeration. Blowing things out of proportion. Use of absolutes. We all(gasp!) tend to do these things, especially when debating. However, they leave one open to attacks, such as... "You're exaggerating!" "You're blowing things out of proportion!" Or, "Not ALL people do this." etc. So why do we still do it? I don't know! But it doesn't help to attack THAT and ignore the point, because if you do, all you'll get in response is "You've completely missed my point!" I see that ...

So, the softball season is over. Last I blogged about it we were 2-3. Well, it turns out that this year, my team actually had some talent and skill on it. We lost the next game and went to 2-4, and then went on to win all the rest of the games! So we ended the season 11-4, in 4th place (potentially 3rd, not all the games have played out yet). So, in a 12 team playoff, we get a bye for the first round. We have never made it to the second round of the tournament without having a loss, s...

I'm not sure if anyone on JU owns a real estate company that owns buildings and rents them out, but if you do, you probably have business interruption insurance to cover loss of rents. You may remember from my last article that BI insurance only kicks in when there is property damage of some kind. So people moving out is NOT a loss of rents claim. The most important things in a loss of rents claim are the lease agreement and the availability of units for tenants to relocate to. If eve...

Well, I've had a week to get used to not being the lowest man on the totem pole. I got my first files. I got a laptop. I got a key, and a security code. This is all very exciting, considering I have worked there with the slowest computer, no key(so I could get there and wait outside for the first person to arrive) and no files that were really mine. Of course, now that I have files, I still currently have nothing to do. I keep getting handed files that have no documents in yet, or th...

So, I read this morning on AOL news that a judge has finally decided that the spying on people without warrants by the president and his men is unconstitutional. Finally. The article went on to mention that due to this ruling, the President might have to seek congressional approval. ... I don't really get it. Did anyone bother to read the constitution? What can Congress do? Anything they do to approve it will just be unconstitutional in itself! Anyway, as soon as the USA PATRIOT...

I am not an expert on breastfeeding. However, my wife is a member of a breastfeeding message board. On this board, many women have come for support for their breastfeeding, because their doctors don't even know the first thing about it. The worst part is, there are many stories where women have been told by their doctors that they cannot breastfeed or should not breastfeed in situations where it is completely okay to do so. A recent story posted had a woman being told by her doctor that...

I've been working as a temp at a forensic accounting firm for a little over 4 months now. Today, we got some sad news. One of the accountants is leaving in about two weeks, for greener, governmental pastures. What that means is there is now an opening for a new hire. And that new hire is ME! How exciting! I don't have to be a temp anymore, I will get my own laptop, and I will get paid a whole bunch more. But the most important thing is the benefits for my family, and the stability o...

Big Brother is a reality TV show. I like to think of them as today's game shows, myself. They have play at home games for those, so why not play at home survivor or Big Brother? There are a couple problems with the setup, though. After all, once you are evicted, that's the end of the game for you. Also, keeping people locked in your house for 13 weeks is generally frowned upon. So there would be some timing issues to work out, maybe every half-hour or hour instead of a week. The ma...

I am currently working for a forensic accounting firm. Now, when most people hear the word 'forensic' they think crime and CSI and all that. Well, forensic accounting seems to have very little to do with all of that. I have yet to come across a criminal case. Mostly, forensic accountants are hired by lawyers and insurance agencies to calculate lost wage and business interruption claims. I had never heard of business interruption(BI) insurance until I joined this firm. Basically, with B...

If I happen to know about a current event, I probably heard about it on Joe User. I can log on and read about whatever I want, on my own time table. I don't have to worry too much about slanted news stories, because I know they're here. But I can just read the comments and hear the other side, as long as the poster isn't one who deletes everything of an opposite view. I never knew the dangers of CPS before I read Gideon. I really thought they were a good thing. I hadn't heard anything g...

So, softball season is once again upon us. I play in a christian softball league. There are 16 teams this year, and 15 different churches. The church I attend has two teams in the league, because it's quite a large church and has a lot of good softball players. So far we have played 5 games. Games are played every Monday night. Currently we are 2-3. The two teams we beat were the team that won the season opening tournament, and the team that won the championship last year. The teams...

So, something has gone wrong with my body. My back is killing me, a pain that starts at my very lowest point that can still be called a back and running all the way down my left leg. Ow ow ow. It hurts to get up, to roll over, but I can walk once I'm up. I can do what I normally do, it's just getting from one position to the other that's a pain in the ... back. I worked half a day and when I took my lunch, I didn't go back. It just hurt too much. One of the things that I can't do, ho...

Stardock is creating a new Massively Multiplayer Online Game called Society. One of the biggest problems with such games is that the world goes on, so that new players and old players are playing at the same time. So, conceivably, a new player with nothing is up against a player who has been there for a couple years, knows how to do everything, and has more soldiers than the newbie can even dream of. This leads to a lot of newbie bashing, farming, and exploiting, which tends to drive new...

I got a job finally! I haven't been telling all the details of my search lately because, well, it wasn't going very well. But now it's done! I got a job with a forensic accounting firm. Basically I will be doing grunt work for them, as a Staff Accountant. Well, it's a temporary position to start, but they said that there was room for a hire if I prove to be worth it. So, for the next however long, I will be working my butt off. But it is worth it, because my hope and dream is to be a f...
