Jythier's Articles In Politics

So, I read this morning on AOL news that a judge has finally decided that the spying on people without warrants by the president and his men is unconstitutional. Finally. The article went on to mention that due to this ruling, the President might have to seek congressional approval. ... I don't really get it. Did anyone bother to read the constitution? What can Congress do? Anything they do to approve it will just be unconstitutional in itself! Anyway, as soon as the USA PATRIOT...

First, I want to address what I think of LW's problem with the new bill, which actually has little to do with the Visa's themselves, but with the treatment of legal immigrants - it sucks. I think the regulations regarding legal immigration needs to be changed, and make it easier for people to stay and become citizens. Especially from countries where we have Visa waivers. The next problem with the immigration legislation is that it lets everyone in, even gang members and known criminals, ...

In the 2004 elections, I did not vote. I did vote in 2006 though, and plan to for the rest of my life, so don't get all "Hey, he didn't vote!" on me. However, when I look at the system for voting for president, and I look at my state, I realize that my vote would not have carried any weight regardless. The person I would have voted for already won my state, therefore my vote would not have helped him. The electoral college has outlived it's usefulness. If I remember correctly, it was s...

Container is a board game. It is an economic simulation for 3-5 players, and works this way: You, as a player, are responsible for 3 different vertically-integrated companies - one is a factory, one is a wholesaler, and one is a shipping/retail company. There are five different types of containers. You produce containers in your factory, buy them as a wholesaler, and then ship them to an island where they are auctioned off to the highest bidder (or you can keep them yourself by matching...

I think I may have a solution for the social security crisis. First off, STOP SPENDING OUR SOCIAL SECURITY MONEY ON OTHER THINGS! Put it in a separate account that you cannot touch for anything but Social Security. Next, get rid of the employer's portion of social security tax. Lastly, remove the upper limit on it. Tax every dollar. Not only will it be simpler, there will also be a lot more money coming out of the rich's pockets, while no more comes out of anyone under $80k or whateve...

A man gives his servants different amounts of money to invest. To one, he gives 50,000. To the second, 20,000. And to the third, 10,000. He leaves for a couple years, and comes back. The one he gave 50k now has 100k. He says, woohoo. The one he gave 20k now has 40k. He says, great job. The third had still 10k, because he buried it in a mayonaisse jar in the back yard. So, he takes 20k from the first, 10k from the second, and gives 5k to the third. The remaining 25k is given to ...

A pregnant woman. What characteristics define this noble creature? Hormonal, of course, and as it should be. Lacking in brain power, quite forgiveable, as the blood that normally visits there is now taken by a new life, which is such a beautiful thing that one can only smile when she forgets her phone number, where she left the car keys, and sometimes, her own name. Women who would never have this kind of problem under any other condition, any other stress... In other words, a pregna...

So, we got government health insurance through the state program. It's really nice, don't have to pay for anything, except a premium. Of course, it only covered my wife, because she was pregnant. So when we went to the hospital, she was covered, sure (they did not cover the midwife, of course, that had to come out of pocket) and then we get this bill in the mail, for our son's care. Well, hmm, we applied for that, and lookee, I see on the website that we should be qualifying not only for ...

In 1000 Barrels per day 1999 - 725 2000 - 620 2001 - 795 2002 - 459 2003 - 481 2004 - 655 2005 - 527 2006 - 553 (average of 12 months, not weighted) 2007 - 485 (average of 4 months, not weighted) So, where's all the extra oil Bush went in to Iraq for? That is why he went in, right? To get me more oil so I can drive my 5 SUVs and fly my private jet around? Where is it? I only want to pay a buck a gallon. I knew we didn't go in for oil. The whole oil thing was about the...

We all know it.  We have been spoonfed two political candidates, yet again, neither of whom actually represents us in any way. We have Obama, who wants to give the poor more money to waste, tax money away from people who actually know what to do with it, and create DHS as if it didn't already exist. We have McCain, who is the same old rich white guy we always get, who really represents big corporations and not the people. So what are we to do? Well, I have the solution to this d...
