If I happen to know about a current event, I probably heard about it on Joe User. I can log on and read about whatever I want, on my own time table. I don't have to worry too much about slanted news stories, because I know they're here. But I can just read the comments and hear the other side, as long as the poster isn't one who deletes everything of an opposite view. I never knew the dangers of CPS before I read Gideon. I really thought they were a good thing. I hadn't heard anything good about Iraq until it was posted on JoeUser that the Iraq army was finding stuff on their own.

Current events are not really my thing though. I also can read about music, learn about what women are thinking... I can ask questions about things that were posted and actually get an answer, usually within a couple days. (I know I love answering comments) If I wrote to a news program, they probably would either ignore my question, or answer it on the air when I wasn't watching. Especially since I don't watch TV news, because I'm more likely to hear celebrity gossip than news anyway.

Anyway, keep up the good work, JU community. You really can make a difference by sharing your opinions.

Thanks for the props, jythier. It's nice to know that I'm doing some good.

You're echoing something that I have thought for awhile about JU (and even mentioned once or twice previously). I'd be inclined to believe the media spin about our military overseas except, I've seen their blogs, I've seen their families' blogs, and I've seen pictures of the good we're doing overseas. The media can spin the war all it wants, but I'm getting the other side and I'm not having to look very far. Call it "counter-spin" if you will, but it's pretty durn effective. I wish everyone got a good peek at this site.

Simple. We are all well informed experts. Well, ok, except for Col Klink.

Oooh, JU Community...good job! [we all knew we were...we're so opinionated and all...you know...without swollen heads!]

Gid-
I just had a kid, we had state health care and WIC for him, and we plan to homeschool. DCYF could be here any minute. *peers through blinds*

Anyway, it's true. Spin and counter-spin will give you all the news, instead of just the news that makes certain people look bad(or good). So it gives you a better perspective on everything. And it's all in one place. Other places, I could go through everything and still not find anything positive.

The difference between JU and other Media is we dont pretend to be unbiased.  So you know where we are coming from, and like you said, you can get the other side by reading the comments.
