Recently, someone joined JoeUser and posted an article. This article contained a salvation message. While I am for the salvation message, obviously, there are ways of going about delivering it that definitely trump this one for sure. Basically, what he was saying to us was that he cared about our souls, without bothering to even become part of the community or even see if people were already in this mission field.

For one, the title of the article was spelled wrong. How imprtant can your message be if you can't be bothered to get the TITLE right?

For two, this was posted in politics. There is definitely a religious section of this community. So it was in the wrong category. Again, not bothering to learn the proper way to post a message.

Thirdly, and this may not be quite correct, but I noticed he left an email address in the message. What this says to me is that he's never coming back. He showed up, posted once, and is on his way, leaving behind his forwarding address.

How can people even think you care about them when you do something like this? You may care, but more likely you just wanted to feel Christiany today. Oh, I know, I'll sign up on a blog site, and post the salvation message, and be on my way. You know what, if you want to learn about Christianity, there are people HERE who will teach you. We have a pastor's wife, and many other Christians around here. People who actually care about this community and the people in it. I'd say, if you want a bunch of cliches, bible verses, and incomprehensible Christian lingo, feel free to email this guy. But if you want someone to speak to YOU, talk to someone you know about Jesus. Or someone you know from JoeUser. Some random guy might know Jesus, but he probably doesn't know you. And, if it's a habit to go around and annonymously preach, he will probably never really know you.

While I love to see Christianity at work, and God working in people's lives, I don't think that's what it looks like.

God does not have a spell checker.

If I proselytize, how will you trust me to tell you the truth about Jesus if you don't trust me? The relationship needs to already be there. And it doesn't need to be a longstanding relationship, either. Just a little itty bit of trust, and then you can share. Jesus often did something for the people before he preached to them, or he let them seek him out. Paul would become part of the local community while preaching. Often he would say things in his letters like, you know me. You saw what I did when I was among you. So that's obviously a big portion of ministry.

I add a big hearty amen to this post. I am actually here very little these days, though for awhile 2 or 3 years ago I felt hopelessly addicted. When I hung around more, I was embarrassed by the Christians who seemed so unaware of their naked judgmentalism; I didn't want to be associated with them. Your blog expressed my sentiments to the T. If you don't really care about people, why in the world would they want to listen to you flap your mouth about religious mumbo jumbo? Christ came to bring and even to BE the Good News, but believe me, a lot of what I hear Christians preaching does not sound like very good news.

This reminds me of something Little-whip said... "I would not rent them the house, not because they're gay but because they did not know how to behave in public." Easily can replace that with Christian at times. Some Christians just don't know how to behave in public. Hide your faith? No. But it should be the kind of thing you don't need to hurl at everyone all the time. Certain situations call for tact.

Hey Jythier,

a bit off track here but have been wanting to ask....are you really an accountant? Maybe you've said and I've missed it....but just wondering cuz I work in a CPA office that my husband and I just recently sold for good. I still help out but don't work nearly as much as I used to.

We've gone from helping others with their finances to helping others with the eternal and haven't looked back. Can't decide which is more difficult.

Good article. Now I'm wondering which blogger you're talking about. I see them once in a while, but you're right, they never come back. It's like a hit and run message. My guess is, it has alot to do with maturity. They may be new Christians on fire and think this is a vehicle to get the message out or maybe they believe they will get brownie points or something, their good deed for the day. It's hard to say.

I have a friend who has no problem with cold evangelism but she can be quite offensive not letting people go when she starts up a conversation. Many of us don't want to go out with her for just this reason. She stopped a young couple to tell them about Jesus one summer day in the park. The young man more than once politely tried to get away and finally just said...."hey we're on a first date and I really don't want to be listening to you. I'd much rather be listening to this young lady I've decided to take for a walk in the park and who has been patiently waiting for you to stop. Now if you'll excuse us we'd like to continue our date."

This certainly doesn't help anybody....God, the misguided Christian or the young couple.

I am an accountant. I don't have my CPA yet, but it's probably in the cards for the future. I still need schooling, but I think I now have the experience requirement. One more year and I'll have the experience req for my CFE cert. I really want that one. The CPA is just to further my career.

AD, you've got it. But, had I just posted that, it would not have made much sense, would it?

Well, of course you would have need to add more content I just was summing up ur point.

I have a personal term that I use for such individuals. I call them "Bible Thumpers" because they are more concerned about thumping people with the Bible than they are about the person. I find so many examples in scriptures where the physical needs met first before the preaching. I think if this individual came back and read this post about them their could be great room for growth. I believe that so many do have their hearts motives in the right place but that's about where it ends.

Take for instance, India shortly after the Tsunami, there was one particular area where 'Christians' were being kicked out. If I didn't have a personal friend that went I would not have fully understood why they were being kicked out. Here they were coming with tons of food to feed the hungry (a very noble cause) but basically wouldn't let them eat until they either received a 'message' or a bible. I was utterly appalled by this. They were putting stipulations on them receiving food.

Force feeding anyone seems to me to make more enemies than friends. JMO

Ack, are you serious? That's horrible... feed the people, then when they're full you talk to them. Full people are more receptive. Or, talk to them in line, but not a forced thing. If they tell you to bug off, bug off.

Bah, LW, I have no plans for your soul! I just like to introduce my friends to each other. It seems you've already met Him, though, and don't seem to get along. And I would never even dream of trying to match up to either you or Simon in a Bible knowlege contest - I just started really building the daily reading habit last month, and I'm still a little shaky on it. I know a lot of what's in there, but I don't know where it is, and I haven't memorized very much. So, yeah, you know scriptures better than me. So I'll do my best not to just throw them at you as if you don't already know them.

And if I was trying to make you like an unreal version of me just to get you saved, I would've left out the cat thing for sure. (I know you didn't accuse me of that, just making conversation)

Thanks, LW, for not being too harsh on KFC on my thread. I know you can be really LWish sometimes, so thanks for dialing it down.

KFC, there have been many times during my interactions with you on JU that I have literally felt assaulted by your proselytizing, you beat people up with it, you beat people down with it.

ya know LW, I've been very kind and patient with you as much as humanly possible. Thru it all tho, you have NEVER said one kind word to me nor have you acknowledged me outside of attacking me whenever you get the chance. I wish you would stop.

I have absolutely NO idea what I've said here (for instance) to set you off yet once again. It doesn't seem to take much.

You say you feel literally assaulted? Well stay off my blog!!! You've promised NEVER to come on my site, but you still do. Why would one who feels literally assaulted keep coming around? Doesn't make sense.

Sorry Jythier.
