Recently, someone joined JoeUser and posted an article. This article contained a salvation message. While I am for the salvation message, obviously, there are ways of going about delivering it that definitely trump this one for sure. Basically, what he was saying to us was that he cared about our souls, without bothering to even become part of the community or even see if people were already in this mission field.

For one, the title of the article was spelled wrong. How imprtant can your message be if you can't be bothered to get the TITLE right?

For two, this was posted in politics. There is definitely a religious section of this community. So it was in the wrong category. Again, not bothering to learn the proper way to post a message.

Thirdly, and this may not be quite correct, but I noticed he left an email address in the message. What this says to me is that he's never coming back. He showed up, posted once, and is on his way, leaving behind his forwarding address.

How can people even think you care about them when you do something like this? You may care, but more likely you just wanted to feel Christiany today. Oh, I know, I'll sign up on a blog site, and post the salvation message, and be on my way. You know what, if you want to learn about Christianity, there are people HERE who will teach you. We have a pastor's wife, and many other Christians around here. People who actually care about this community and the people in it. I'd say, if you want a bunch of cliches, bible verses, and incomprehensible Christian lingo, feel free to email this guy. But if you want someone to speak to YOU, talk to someone you know about Jesus. Or someone you know from JoeUser. Some random guy might know Jesus, but he probably doesn't know you. And, if it's a habit to go around and annonymously preach, he will probably never really know you.

While I love to see Christianity at work, and God working in people's lives, I don't think that's what it looks like.

To be perfectly honest I had no idea what she said to set you off either. I did figure it was something from history that would be lost on me. I also suspect that her perception of a personal attack stems from that history. And, even your nice has a bite to it, LW.

How about using the phrase, "What prompted that specific reply" instead of "what set you off"?

Jythier,

Back on topic I thought of another angle here; something to think about.

You said this poster left his email right? That's a good thing.

Obviously if he left his email, he's willing to talk with you. He's giving you or anyone the opportunity to contact him for further discussion.

It's not like he just left you (us) with no recourse to get to know him. He's saying, I'd love to discuss this further if you're interested.

Think about like when Jesus sent the disciples out two by two. He told them to go out and "tell." If they accept the message, you've won a brother, if not, wipe the dust off your feet and go on to the next one. No message given about making a relationship first.

Also, if you read Acts which chronicles Paul's journeys you'd see the same thing. He went into strange unknown territory and preached to whomever would listen. More than once the crowds rushed him. Obviously they didn't like the message, but it didn't stop him and he won more converts than anyone. At one point it says in scripture that ALL heard the message in Asia Minor. Certainly he didn't make friends with them all first.

So all I'm saying is there is room for both types of witnessing. Some of us cringe at the thought of cold evangelism and would rather do it naturally thru our friendships and some love to do this type of thing and are good at it. God gave us all diff gifts and we must give each other room.

I'm absolutely sure they never wiped that dust off their feet the first hour they were there. They probably stayed at least a night. But when they left I think they did leave forwarding addresses, the best they could, but they were always moving around...

Oh well. As long as my efforts aren't hampered by someone doing something like that, I don't really care. But when things cause people I care about to lose respect for Christianity, it breaks my heart.
