Who cares?
Published on July 26, 2007 By Jythier In Movies & TV & Books
I am ashamed of newscasters. I do not have cable at home. I'm currently staying in a hotel. As I flip through the few channels we get here, CNN Headlines is a channel that I see. However, the only news that was on yesterday, every time I flipped through, was Lindsay Lohan's arrest.

...

Who is Lindsay Lohan, a very lucky individual might ask, that she should be the only story on CNN Headline with the ELECTION CYCLE STARTING.

Wasn't CNN a respected news source? Is CNN Headline an entire channel devoted to Access Holywood and Extra broadcasts? I don't know, but it sure seems like it. I for one am glad I don't have cable. I might accidently flip to this one thinking there might be news. There's no news that they want to talk about. I'm sick of news being reduced to what celebrities are doing.

The news people need to stop grabbing ratings. The news should inform you about things you need to know about, not celebrity gossip. I'm so tired of this. I can't get informed even if I want to anymore. There's nobody bothering to do any reporting.

I agree with you totally. The saddest thing is that the news stations actually believe we care about the comings and going of celebrity.

Who is Lindsey Lohan?  Today's Paris Hilton.

News channels rarely do in depth stories, and there are not enough 30 second sound bites to fill 24 hours of news.

You're talking CNN Headline News? There is actually an "entertainment news" show on there that gets broadcast either once or twice a night. Also, their hourly rotating format seemed to not appeal to viewers, so they're changing it. Larry King's show from the previous night will be re-run mid-morning.

Who cares? Viewers. These news shows/channels try their best to lead with the stories that bring in the most traffic. Headline News anchors constantly refer to the content of CNN.com and cover the most popular stories from that site. They covered it far too much for my tastes as well, but it seems they do get viewers based on that sort of content...

Also, when does an "election cycle" begin?

Well, there was a debate the night before, if I remember correctly... that's enough for me to call the election cycle started, even if it was a primary.

Maybe news channels, you know, channels that base themselves on the fact that they are delivering NEWS, should do in-depth stories?

HAHAHAHA It was a huge headlining "story" on Fox too, MM. Wake up and smell the roses - all 24-hour media outlets suck ass.
