Just a List
Published on July 15, 2007 By Jythier In Music
After playing the original Guitar Hero game for PS2, I checked into some of the artists of songs I like and found that they had done even cooler stuff. Here is a list of the artists and the first song I heard from them on Guitar Hero.

Audioslave - Cochise
Eric Clapton (Cream) - Crossroads
Boston - More Than a Feeling
ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man
Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water
The Donnas - Take It Off
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Texas Flood
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust

Out of those, ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughn are my favorites. I had no idea that ZZ Top did Gimme All Your Lovin' (which I had only heard in The Santa Clause) or La Grange.

I had never even heard of Stevie Ray Vaughn before. Now, he's probably my favorite artist, which sucks because he's dead. So I just use YouTube to see him live! My favorite SRV song is probably Scuttle Buttin'.

What's the strangest way you've discovered a new artist?

Listening to secular music (filthy propaganda, haha), eh?

What will your pastor think?

I still have the tickets I bought to see Stevie Ray Vaughn. He was killed less than a week before the concert was scheduled. I still remember exactly where I was when I heard the news. He was among my personal greats.

If you ever play Guitar Hero II and unlock the song "Jordan" by the immaculate guitarist Buckethead, tell me what you think of it.

Or better yet, go YouTube search Buckethead and Jordan. There's like fifteen different vids of it.

Now that's a song worthy of Guitar Hero.

I have Guitar Hero II, I will check that one out. I've found I can't get into the unlockable songs like I did with GH1. In fact, the entire track list seems a little worse, but maybe that's just because GH is the ORIGINAL. But, gotta love TROGDORRRRR! Can't play it worth anything, but I love it.

That's a real tragedy, Mason. Well, as much as it can be next to the whole death thing.

Did you get your money back?

Jimmy Vaughn was around here the other day, or will be soon, or something. I almost got tickets when I remembered that I have no money.

Secular music often has lyrics I don't agree with, but I often agree with the rocking guitar solos.

My church has a great guitarist. I just wish he'd turn the guitar volume up once in a while. Why can't church/worship rock?

I was the laughing stock of my family when we played this game a while back. I gotta admit...I did stink at it.

I'm the laughing stock of my wife when I play it, because I look like a dork playing a fake plastic guitar. I'm pretty good at it at this point. I can't wait for rock band so I can try my hand at drums... might want to keep away from singing though.

I have a great time with GH, but I admit I'm not that good at it. I'm the worst at the songs I know on real guitar. My fingers have a bad habit of going for "F" instead of "Blue" ;~D

As for your question about discovering bands and songs... I discovered a lot of new favorites when I was doing security for concerts. Being exposed to bands I wouldn't have paid much attention to really woke me up to some great work... Of course, it also proved to me that some bands were never worth exposing myself to. ;~D

Thanks for the comment, Ted. I haven't found myself going for "F" instead of "Blue" which is good because I don't play the guitar at all. I'm tolerable at most songs, and I can do really amazing things on medium... but hard is hard, and expert is blah.

Maybe I should look into doing concert security... but, maybe I'll be better off leaving the good with the bad in this case.
