Not What I Thought
Published on June 25, 2007 By Jythier In Movies & TV & Books
I want to be as general as possible in this, as it's hard to talk about this movie without giving things away. Firstly, after movies such as Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, and Eragon coming out, I expected Bridge to Terabithia to be a fantasy movie. It is not. It is a movie about imagination, friendship, and living through elementary school.

Despite the trailers for the movie not discussing any of that, (when do they ever show what a movie is really about?) I still enjoyed Bridge to Terabithia. It was better than a fantasy movie could be, because it was reality with an imagination.

This is definitely not the thing to watch if you're looking for a Chronicles of Narnia knock-off, because it's definitely not that. I expected it to be, but it's definitely its own movie. It's worth picking up for a buck at RedBox, for sure.

I wanted to say so much more, but I will keep it to the comments afterwards. Feel free to add what you thought when you watched it. Remember - do not go to the comments if you do not want spoilers. SPOILER ALERT IN COMMENTS.

Anyway, if someone posts something worth reading without a spoiler in it I might post it up here, if they say it's okay.

There is that whole breed of trailer which end up showing you a mini-version of the entire bloody movie! thus making actually watching the film redundant. I hate those trailers.

expected it to be,

I thought it would be, too, and probably would have avoided it for that reason. Now that I know it's not, I'll give it a chance when I happen upon it at the library.

I didn't think I'd like Chronicles either, having burned myself out on the cartoon version in my woebegone days, but it was surprisingly good.

For some reason, my site is showing 0 comments and 0 replies, yet there you are. I only opened it to bump the thread.

Definitely give it a chance. The trailer was all about Terabithia, but the movie is not.

I hate those over-trailers too. But trailers that show a completely skewed version of the movie is worse. Like Meet the Robinsons. All I knew, until I saw a better trailer, was that there was a dinosaur with a big head and little arms in a futuristic world. Now, I know that movie is about a kid looking for his family in the future. So, the movie is actually about something. I need to know the movie is about something or I won't want to see it.
