Jythier's Articles In Religion

The government’s got it wrong. For a while now, there has been a push to redefine what freedom of religion means.  Freedom of religion comes from the following: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Here’s what people seem to think it sa...

I'm getting baptized this Sunday.

I can hear the gasps.  What?  He isn't baptized?

No, I'm not.  But I want to be saved.  Mark 16:15-16 says:

15And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
16He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned."

It's... gasp! another Christian article.  Skip it if you don't want to read another Christian article.  Here, I'll put in this 'more' tag so that you won't have to read any of the substance if you don't want to.

What the hell. Backstory: My younger son was cast as the part of baby Jesus in the live nativity (that does say 'live', right?) That's great, I said, and we invited several people, some of whom would never set foot in a church if it wasn't to see my adorable son who everyone he's ever met has instantly fell in love with. My wife brings Baby to the dress rehearsal, missing older son's bedtime and dinner as a family in order to arrive relatively on time. (there is no more on time for us...

Gen. 2:18 - "It is not good for man to be alone" 1 Cor 7:1 - "It is good for a man not to touch a woman" So, a bit back, I was challenged by Little-whip to find a scripture to back the principle I was talking about, that God intended people to be married and enjoy sex within the marriage. And, I found this little tidbit here that pretty much derailed my research, leaving me with only the Song of Solomon as backup for my claim, which really isn't enough but it's what I had. Of course, ...

Somebody think of the children. Somebody besides the Children's Ministry Director, because she doesn't know what she's doing. I'm not against having a director without kids, but I am against a director without kids telling people with kids that their security concerns are ridiculous. I am against a director who makes rules for the older kids without specifying that it does not apply to the nursery and toddlers, such as no sippy cups allowed, no bringing in outside toys, etc. I am agains...

There's an attitude, and I can't think of anyone who is not guilty of having this at some point. It's the same thing as with America, that sense of entitlement that we have, just for being in America, everything should be given to us. A lot of people look at God the same way, thinking, "Because I'm a Christian, my life should be easy." Heck, after serving faithfully for years, some Christians say to themselves, "Ok, God, now it's my turn. Serve me." Here's the problem with that. ...

Don't judge people. You're judging me. Stop judging. Don't be so judgemental. If you judge others, you youself will be judged, you know. Judging isn't a very christian thing to do, after all. Sure, I agree, judging IS bad. But I'm getting tired of people referring to correction as judging. Granted, lately around here there has been some judging going on. But even Christians, when corrected, will jump to the "don't judge me" wagon instead of actually trying to grow. What make...

I was convicted today, not on felony charges or anything like that - worse. A man I respect today made a brilliant point, one that I tried to address earlier with my "I Want To Join a Cult" article but I seemed to have missed it. If you, as a Christian, are not seeing major life change from before you were a Christian, if you are maintaining a pattern of sin in your life, you don't believe in God. That REALLY hit home. I mean, I have maintained a pattern of sin in my life that I kno...

Today I went to church in a t-shirt and shorts. Ooo. Some people think going to church is a formal occasion, and at some churches it probably is. Some say you need to dress up to show God the respect He deserves. You know, those are great reasons to dress up. But I managed to show proper respect to my earthly father wearing t-shirts and shorts. I think I can show respect to God with them, too. It doesn't really matter what you're wearing. Honestly, I just want to be comfortable wh...

We've started a sort of half Christianity. I don't know how it came about, I only know that's what it is now. The first Christians, in the Bible, sold everything they owned and pooled it together to support all the believers. Sounds a little like communism, but with Jesus as the head of the group, there is nobody taking more than anyone else. If we tried it today, it could very well work. But we couldn't have any of the half-Christians we seem to have now. I should know, I'm one of ...

The self denying, no enjoyment, not thinking about the reward attitude of Christian men and women today is so sad. I wish I could say that it isn't the attitude I have, but currently, I'm still there. The truth of Christianity is shocking. So many say, "Oh, if I am to be a Christian I will have to give up sex, drugs, and rock & roll, or whatever other fun I'm having, I must deny myself any enjoyment of anything." If that is your attitude, you are severly limiting yourself and your God...

A lot of people seem to struggle with the concept of free will vs. destiny in Christianity. A lot of times, I think that people refuse to admit just how big God really is. A lot of times, free will is thought of as the ability to make your own decisions. You have that, for sure. God said so, in His book. But he also said some other things which sounds very contradictory to that. He mentions, in His book, that He knows all the names of those who will be saved. Every saved person is know...

I always wondered why the Bible said anything about the treatment of widows, but now I understand. The system in America, capitalism with welfare, isn't perfect, but it sure beats the system in Egypt. See, in America, everyone who wants a job has a chance to apply for jobs. In Egypt, that is not so. In Egypt, if you are a widow, you: -Can not own property -Can not work -Must be supported by your relatives or beg -Live on the street, or in an apartment without running water, heat, ...

It's already starting. Our freedoms are beginning to be infringed upon by legislation, and it's only going to get worse. When the nation began, there was no need for so many laws. The people had self-judgement, based upon the scriptural principles that were held dear by the founding fathers. While they may not have believed that Jesus saves, they did believe that the Bible held the principles for governing a nation. The Constitution of this nation is only as morally strong as those who...
